Dry Tortugas Fishing
Dry Tortugas Fishing The Dry Tortugas are a small group of islands that lie 65 nautical miles due west from Key West. Because of their remoteness, the water still shows its aquamarine tones even at the sheltered anchorage on the south side of the famous Fort Jefferson. This is the most remote and least visited of our national parks. It is accessible only by boat or seaplane. The Fort reeks with history and is a must see on your overnight stays while fishing this area.

Because of the remoteness of this area, only the surface of the sport fishery has been touched at this time. We have made one-day trips to the Tortugas, however this does not leave a lot of time for fishing. It is about a two-hour trip, each way, on a nice day. This leaves around four hours for fishing. However, that usually translates to four hours of catching.

Though it must be planned a year in advance, the use of a mother ship is the preferred method of Dry Tortugas fishing. We fish our way down to the Fort, where we are met that evening by the mother ship and have all of the amenities of home. Great meals, clean bunks, air conditioning, showers etc., all for only a little more than a good motel and meals in Key West. A full day of great fishing still leaves time for some snorkeling in the pristine waters around the island, and you will still have time for a tour of the "Fort" before watching the sunset over Loggerhead Key. The evenings are spent reminiscing over past fishing trips and playing with the fish that are in the lights around the boat.
This is not only a great fishing trip, but also an exceptional overall experience. Plan for next year because you will never forget your "Dry Tortugas fishing trip".
