It’s A Big Ocean
What a week!!!! From double carts loads of quality fish to Sky rocketing Mako Sharks, this week reminded me why I do what I do for a living. With the Gulf Stream in close we’ve been seeing more unusual creatures live huge Leatherback Turtles and Mola Mola (Sun Fish). Mate Daniel Delph even hooked a Mediterranean Spear Fish which is incredibly rare if you don’t already know that. I’ve never seen one before. Started the week off with long time friends and customers Garland Rodriguez and Steve Kaiser from Merrill Lynch with a beautiful day and full cart load of snapper and huge Black Grouper. Then Fred Fiek’s trip, where not only a full cart load but also a 50lb cobia for the cherry on top. We also saw the Mako Shark for the first time that week flying 30 feet out of the water feeding on the massive schools of King Mackeral in the area. Then the mother load with Bob Garland, Steve Domiano, Brian Berger, and their good buddy Andy. Big Mutton Snapper, Gag Grouper, Black Grouper and even Mahi Mahi were biting. Then about a 400 lb Mako swam right up to the boat causing a scramble to create an outfit big enough to land this menacing looking creature from the abyss. Not fast enough though.
